Safeguarding

Introduction

At Queen Katherine School, we take our responsibility to keep all children safe very seriously. We aim to provide a welcoming and safe environment where students and their families are respected and valued. We are always watchful for signs of abuse or neglect and follow the appropriate steps to make sure children get the support, protection, and justice they need. All children, no matter their age, gender, ability, culture, race, language, religion, or sexual identity, have the right to protection.

As set out by the Department for Education (DfE), is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
  • ensuring children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

If you have any concerns about safeguarding or child protection, please contact Mrs. G Wade, our Designated Safeguarding Lead, at geraldine.wade@queenkatherine.org

All visitors must report to reception, sign in, and wear a visitor badge. For safety reasons, visitors will always be escorted while on school grounds.

The Team

Cumbria Safeguarding Children Partnership

Every Local Authority area has an Independent Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB). LSCB’s are responsible for ensuring agencies work together to safeguard children and for testing how effectively this happens. The Cumbria LSCB became The Cumbria Safeguarding Children Partnership (CSCP) in 2019.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening. The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Adult to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.
